Living with anxiety: Britain's silent epidemic


The vast majority of sufferers of anxiety are able to function, but in a relatively painful fashion, their lives ruled by avoidance, subterfuge, ritual and self-medication (perhaps drink or self harm). Daniel Smith, author of ‘Monkey Mind’, refers to these sufferers as "stiflers". "They learn to seal their anxiety off from public view." A number of sufferers describe how therapy has helped them.
