Freud described therapy as improving the ability 'to love and work'.

What sort of problems might therapy help me with?

trying to overcome an addiction
-
difficulties relating to sexuality
-
an inability to make or sustain good relationships
-
repeatedly becoming involved in unsatisfactory or destructive relationships
-
family conflicts
-
coming to terms with losses such as bereavement, divorce or redundancy
-
lacking confidence, self-esteem or under achieving
-
lacking a sense of purpose in life
-
having unresolved issues from the past
Counselling and psychotherapy take place in a private and confidential setting. It is a one-to-one collaborative process between the person seeking help and myself.

I provide a safe, calm and confidential environment, where you can identify, explore and work through what is troubling you.
Through the relationship between us, I aim to help you discover and develop new and effective ways of approaching your life.
Counselling might be more appropriate to help you through a difficulty that has arisen recently such as a bereavement or a relationship breakdown. It would be once weekly, open ended. You might feel ready to leave after a few months.
Psychotherapy works with more complex and more established difficulties that are often a result of childhood experiences. This approach is a good way to address more general feelings of sadness or feeling ‘something’s not quite right’. This work would also be once weekly and would be open ended and would allow you as much time as you want to take.

I have undertaken rigorous trainings in counselling and psychotherapy and offer both options within my practice.

What to do next?
It is not uncommon to feel uncertain or anxious about making initial contact with a counsellor or psychotherapist. An experienced practitioner will understand this and is trained to listen and to help with the process.
If you would like to explore further the possibility of therapy with me, please feel free to contact me by telephone or email and we can discuss your situation or to set up an initial meeting. All communications between us will be treated in complete confidence. I respond to all enquiries promptly.
